Footsteps in the Alpujarras

A personal blog about life in the Alpujarras & beyond

This time we did an overnight camp to enable us to do this round trip. It was a short walk on the first day to our overnight camp spot at Lavaderos de la Reina. The second day was an early start before the sun hit us to make an ascent of Picon de Jerez. Then we traversed the main ridge covering 3 more 3000m peaks. We took a good rest before a very long and hot decent back to the cars.

Get cats you won't have a mouse problem!! We've had more ๐Ÿญ in the house since these two came to live with us than all the years before!

No idea why but Sweep likes to sleep in a box

Sooty does not like to sleep in a box

The annual bathing of the dogs happened today, Rita is super white again ๐Ÿ˜Ž Arko is dirtier than before ๐Ÿคท Washing a waterproof dog is hard work and you end up wetter than the dog ๐Ÿ˜‚ Washing the dogs is a quiet affair these days without Khumbu being here screaming for his life โค๏ธ

Another grand day out in the mountains this time we went up Cerro de Caballo (3009m). The beauty in the mountains at this time of year is just remarkable.

We beat the sun up to this point this morning. About 500m of ascent.

A very cool tree

We had the most amazing storm. Ahead of the storm some very cool Mammatus clouds formed. You have to forgive my indulgence in rain and storms, we don't get much of it here, but when it does happen it can often be quite dramatic.

Two years you've been gone from my life Khumbu, I think of and miss you every day ๐Ÿ’”

We had the most amazing day today, again ๐Ÿ˜‰, in another of my favourite mountain areas and it didn't fail with it's beautiful display of wildflowers, many endemic, and nature. Gentians of various sorts, Violas and carnivorous plants, hundred or so Griffon Vultures and one very special Lammergeier.

It's an overload on the senses. No words can do it justice, photo's capture some of it, but it's best to be experienced first hand. Take a look through some pictures and then click on the galleries to see more pictures.
